Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

At Middle Dural Public School

Students at Middle Dural can unleash their creative flair through dance and drama performances, competitions, exhibitions and enrichment programs.

Students with particular interests and talents can participate in local and statewide activities in visual arts, music, dance and drama.

In Visual Arts, students develop knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes in making and appreciating by engaging with the concept of artists, artworks, the audience and the world.

Whole School Focus - The development of a whole school focus in various key learning areas came about as a means of aligning school thinking to take advantage of the opportunity the student numbers provide, while acknowledging the constraints of teacher time in a two teacher school. This whole approach reinforces values, skills and attitudes through collaborative planning and explicit teaching across the school. It allows for a shared focus and peer modelling without grade distinctions, lifting the learning of all students.

The Whole School Arts Program grew out of a need to find the time to provide quality teaching in all aspects of the Arts curriculum while catering for such a wide range of abilities, acknowledging the constraints of time placed upon a small school.

Through the implementation of this program, each aspect of this KLA is addressed ensuring a progressive development of skills. One aspect of the Arts is to be the main focus each term. With this also comes support arts activities linking with the same theme e.g. a Music appreciation lesson could also lend itself to a supplementary visual arts lesson.

The K-6 aspect of this caters for talented students and provides modeling, guidance and support for the younger or less able students.
